Bus Travel While Living in Mexico

Going to college, way back in the day, when I was a veteran bus traveler. Not the city buses instead the kind of buses that take you from city to city going across many states.
You know what kind of bus travel I am talking about. I am mention the kind that are long-distance. The buses that smelled when you got in them. Some like cigarette ashtrays on wheels? The smells that are just off the ones you can not forget that you seem to remember every time that you smell it again. The smells that you know exactly what they are should you smell them again but they are far from pleasant?
The floors in those buses were the dirtiest thing I had ever seen. They were sticky when you walked on them. You could feel and ever hear the noise of your shoes while walking to your seat, and while sitting down you wanted to keep from moving your feet so that you would not notice the mess below you. There was soda and drinks that had been spilt and it seemed like the floors had not been cleaned in years.
Not to even mention the seats. They were filthy and ripped. You didn’t even want to sit on them without putting something between you and the seat. The seats smelled like they had been there without a single cleaning since the bus had been bought. People had stuck gum to the sides and bottom of them and they had many things split on them over the years, this made them even more disgusting.
I believe that it was somewhere in Mississippi that the driver decided to pull over so everyone could get a bite to eat. It was very late at night probably close to midnight. No one even wanted to get out but him we all slept on the bus while this man did only God knows what. This stop of his that seemed to take forever actually ended up making us late to where we were going.
I ended up missing my buss and it was horrible weather outside. This caused me to be over a day delayed waiting for another bus that I could ride. I had no money for a place to stay and it was the worst weather you could possibly dream of. I had to wait for the weather to clear before another bus would even leave the station.
I couldn’t get a hold of my family so I called a friends and asked him to help fly me back to California should I be able to make it through this horrid experience.
That was the last time I ever stepped foot on a bus in the United States.
Let’s take a trip to Mexico. This was like riding first class on the best airline out there. They served meals and drinks and you could have tea and coffee in the galley. Not to mention the fact that there was not only one bathroom but get this there were two of them. The seats were enormous and were actually comfortable. Not only that but you could hear nothing that was going on outside of the bus. That is right NOTHING.
It is amazing how places like Mexico offer services like this. And yet the buses in America can be so nasty. I am being told that it is no different than it was all those years ago that I was taking long distance bus rides.
