You may have been told that if you book your yearly vacation though a travel agency, you will get special discounts on services and this for the most part is true but there are other things to consider.
The fact of the matter is, the more people you work with, the more expensive something is. No matter what business or travel agency tells you, this is something that will not change.
A travel agency will offer you a service and since the service is being offered it is expected to get something in between. A travel agency will work with certain partners and will receive a commission from them. This is a typical business proposition and a fair one. If two entities are working together and one recommends the other, and money exchanges hands.
There is a problem however, when it comes to locating the money. The travel agency is involved of course. An airline or hotel will charge a discounted rate if they are working with the travel agency and the balance of the usual rate will be given to the travel agency
This is not a bad situation; in fact it is very fair. It can be a good idea to work with a travel agency so you do not have to be stuck in front of your computer for hours at a time looking for bargains that just may vanish the day after you locate them. Workers in a travel agency have the knowledge, resources and information to efficiently and quickly plan your trip. This can save you a lot of time and hassle. Time, after all is money so the services of the travel agency can be worth it.
Even if you do not want to use a travel agency to plan your trip, there are at least three other options available to you. Instead of using a travel agency, you can plan your own trip. If you have the time, you can track the best bargains and find the best hotels and airlines. Planning your trip this way frees you from travel agency fees and after you successfully plan your first trip, you will have a good idea of what to look for and where the best bargains are.
If you still do not want to use a travel agency but planning the trip yourself may be too much work, you can also hire a consultant. A travel consultant will charge you a fee and take care of all of your travel details. A travel consultant is a decent alternative to using a travel agency. The fee could be around fifty dollars per half hour. The right travel consultant will be an expert on travel and you can have the majority of your questions answered. However, since the time of a travel consultant may be limited, you may not get to ask all of the questions you need to. If you work with a travel agency they usually have more time to spend with you.
