All house hotels are nice and can send a different feeling to all tourists around the world. These ice hotels are just a copycat of Jukkasjärvi Ice Hotel. The first ice hotel was established in the year 1990 this was the first ice hotel in the whole world.
Ice hotels are located in the Northern hemisphere where winter season is very long and cold. The availability of this hotel is only limited during heavy winter season. Months between May to November is the only months available for ice hotels. Yes, it is true that ice hotels are only available during winter months and it should be rebuilt again from scratch as winter months starts. The creation of ice hotels are not intended as one, because of the location in the Arctic Circle this place is attracting a lot of professional carving artist. By the year 1990 a French artist Jannot Derid holds an exhibition of his ice carvings. This exhibit was done inside an improvised igloo. The igloo turns out to be large and there was a lack of available rooms where tourists can stay.
This is the main reason why some of them are forced to stay the whole night inside the igloo. All locals covered the blocks of ice with reindeer’s skin and visitors slept on reindeer’s skin to provide them with some heat. This is how ice hotels are was made. Thanks to the French artists who devoted his time creating nice ice sculpture and an igloo.
As winter days come in Northern Sweden in March, all the locals from Jukkasjärvi bring tons of ice blocks as well as snows from the nearby river called Torne River. All of these frozen mass is stored in a large production hall. This is a “freeze house” that is use during the summer months as good exhibition hall.
The creation of ice hotels starts during the month of November when the temperature falls. There are main bearing columns with steel rods within to prevent it from collapsing.
These are done by means of spraying snow on each steel to allow the rods to freeze and form rock solid columns. Walls are all ice built using these bearings and there are large blocks of ice that are placed within each room. Artists will carve some statues and decorations out of these blocks of ice. When the first section of the ice hotel is already finished, it will become opened for guests to occupy. The hotel is usually opened for guests in the month of December.
