Safety First When Traveling
If you travel to destinations that are unfamiliar to you, you may find yourself in a lot of trouble. There are many unsafe travel locations where you could become a victim of rape, robbery or murder. Many people who travel may fall prey to crime because they are not fully prepared before traveling on vacation. There are a few things you can do to make yourself safe when you travel.
First of all, do not list your home address on your luggage tag when you travel. If you are away on business, use the company’s address on the tag. If you are going to visit a friend you can write their address on the luggage tag. There are also covered luggage tags available.
Also when you travel, be sure that you stay with your luggage until it gets checked in. If you have to put your bag down, be sure to keep one of your feet on the handle. Also, if you are carrying around important documents with you, do not check the documents that you cannot lose. Make a copy of your driver’s license, credit cards and passport.
When you travel be sure that you bring along a flashlight that is not too big. You could find yourself in the dark when you travel and in surroundings that are unfamiliar to you. When you travel and you in your hotel, make sure your flashlight is by your bed.
If you take medication and you travel, be sure that all of your prescription and medications are labeled and filled correctly. If you travel to certain countries, some medications are not allowed.
Do not wear anything that makes you appear wealthy when you travel. Do not wear expensive watches, gold chains, luggage, rings and other items. It’s actually best to leave your jewelry at home. Also, if it is possible, travel with only a few credit cards.
If you are a woman and traveling alone, you should not accept a drink from someone you do not know. You should watch your drink closely. You should also change up your schedule when you travel. Do your best to come and go at different times of the day.
You should also only stay in a hotel that has peepholes and deadbolt locks on the doors. When you travel, only stay in hotels that have cards that open the doors to the rooms. Be sure to stay in a room that is close to a stairwell. Do not take an elevator if smoke or fire is detected. When you travel, stay in hotels where the entranceways enter the hallway and not directly from outdoors.
If you travel, don’t use taxicabs that are unmarked and you should sit behind the driver. This is because you want to see him. You don’t necessarily want him to see you. Be sure to pay the driver when you get to where you’re going and while you are still in the vehicle. If you have to rent a car, be sure to rent it from a good company with a good reputation. If there are any problems with the operation of the vehicle, this might mean there is sabotage involved.
These are only a few safety tips to be aware of when you travel. The key to staying safe when you travel is to be aware of your surroundings. If you get distracted due to children, luggage, strangers, hotel personnel or other things you could be putting yourself in danger. Be wary of your surrounding and remain in control when different situations come up.
