The Top Travel Picks
San Francisco has been given the title as the top American city to be visited for the seventeenth year in a row now within the Conde Nast Traveler magazine in Readers’ Choice Awards. These awards show up in next month’s issue and ranks the top cities, airlines, cruise lines, resorts and hotels all over the world based on the responses of tens of thousands readers in their Readers’ Choice Survey. Charleston, South Carolina ranked as number two on the list of American cities, and Santa Fe ranked as third.
When it comes to the top island category within North America, the top one spot went to Kiawah, South Carolina. The top two spot when to British Columbia’s Vancouver Island. For the top spots in the top European cities, Italy led the pack with all three cities of Venice, Florence and Rome.
Virgin America got called the top American domestic airline – their second time in a row – while Jetblue Airways ranked as top two and Midwest ranked as top three. For the airlines on the international route, however, Singapore Airlines led the pack and has done so for 21 years now. Emirates came in as top two in the worldwide airline category, with a tie in third place for Cathay Pacific and Virgin Atlantic.
This year, a brand new category for cruises was introduced in the Conde Nast Traveler magazine’s Readers’ Choice Awards, which Celebrity ranked first in, with Cunard and Disney following it. When it comes to the category in huge ships, Cunard, Crystal and Regent Seven Seas were the highest spots. In the category of smaller ships, Regent Seven Seas, Sea Cloud and Yachts of Seabourn came out victorious. The best agencies of car rentals went to Avis, Hertz and Enterprise.
When it comes to the top hotels catergory in America, Kentucky’s 21c Museum Hotel came out the winner, while Chicago’s The Peninsula came in second and Boston’s Mandarin Oriental came in third. When it comes to small top hotels in America, Massachusetts’ Blantyre within Lenox came in first. The top two spot when to North Carolina’s The Swag within the Smoky Mountains, which is located right outside Waynesville and around an hour away from Asheville. The top three spot went to Oregon’s Tu Tu Tun Lodge within Gold Beach.
Several parking garages in Washington now concentrate on exhibits by the National Building Museum. Although parking garages aren’t normally highly attractive in the build department of cities, they happen to be subjects of a brand new exhibit within Washington.
This exhibit focuses on cars and can be viewed until summer of next year. It is the first and primary exhibit that actually explores the overall history of such familiar structures. Curators state that parking garages happen to be much more than mere concrete decks. IN fact, they showcase innovation while serving as overall platforms for well-known architects within the 20th century. This exhibit also features works by the famous Frank Lloyd Wright and even has art and movie and television footage to show.
