Travel for Senior Citizens
If you are a senior citizen who wants to travel the world, it does not have to cost you too much. A number of airlines, attractions and hotels offer different incentives for senior citizen travelers. In order to find deals on travel you will need to do a little research first.

Your research will include mapping out your travel plan and making a budget. The majority of senior citizens do not have unlimited money so create a spreadsheet to track what you spend when you travel. Your retirement plan should be comparable to the money that you have currently and will have and the amount of travel you want to do while you still have your health and can enjoy your travel experience.
There are a few ways you can plan out travel if you are a senior citizen. First, search for senior discounts. There are some senior citizen discounts that start at the age of fifty but the majority of them start from the ages of sixty to through sixty five. Be sure to ask what senior citizen discounts are available when you travel. Don’t be embarrassed by telling them your age and showing them your AARP and AAA membership cards. Many restaurants, hotels, vacation packages, car rentals and cruises offer discounts that will probably not be advertised.
There are some airlines that offer senior citizen discounts but some have been forced to eliminate or cut back on those programs. Be sure to check when you travel.
When you travel, be aware that several hotel chains offer senior citizen discount programs. The most generous programs are located at the Starwood hotels, which include Sheraton and Westin hotels. Forty percent discounts are available through a program at the Hilton hotels but these require a membership fee of fifty-five dollars annually.
Travel sites such as Orbitz, Travelocity, Hotwire, and Expedia are just like the majority of travel agencies. They provide a service and they charge for these services. Even though travel web sites such as these work in conjunction with major airlines, you may find a fare that is cheaper if you write to the hotel or airline website. Remember that making your own reservations may be best; travel sites may have not offer refunds if a hotel reservation gets canceled. Even so, some hotel sites on the web will let you cancel your reservation seventy two hours ahead of time.
You can get very good travel savings if you take part in group tours. Group tours, alumni association, retirement travel groups and church travel groups can save you a lot of money and you get to socialize with other senior citizens.
You may want to save money when you travel by swapping homes with other people that are traveling. There are a lot of programs that will let you swap homes with another person and this will take away your lodging cost. A company called The Home Exchange Network has thousands of home exchange listings in various countries.
