Travel with a Pet

Nowadays you are welcome in many hotels, parks or other travel destinations with your pet; therefore, if you have decided to take your pet with you, here is what you can do in order to make its travel as pleasant and safe as possible.
1. Go to the vet with your pet. Ask the vet to provide a health certificate that proves that your pet can travel and it does not suffer from any contagious disease. If you lose your pet and it taken to a shelter, it will be easier to you if you have a certificate with vaccinations done.
2. Make sure that your pet has a collar and a label with your name and address. If you separate from your pet, you have more chances to find it if it has a label with it, bearing your address and your phone number. You may think as well of applying microchip, which is very useful if the pet loses its collar and its label.
3. Take plenty of medication with you. If your pet is under treatment, take with you enough drugs for the journey. It would be a good idea as well to take a recipe with your pet’s medication if you lose it by mistake.
4. Does your pet have a nice behavior? Its behavior is a very important aspect when you are going to travel with your pet. It is important to take into consideration if your pet is able to obey to some easy commends. Disobedience can be tolerated as long as you are at home, but when you travel, it can disturb people. If it is necessary, you can even hire a professional trainer for your dog.
5. Is your pet friendly with other pets? A pet that is friendly – or a pet that is used to spending time with other people or animals – will tolerate stress during a trip much better than a pet that is used to spending time only with its master. If your pet is not very friendly, it is better to leave it with your friends or neighbors when you are not at home.
6. What means of transport is recommended for your pet? Most of the people who travel with their pet opt for the car. Travel by plane can be stressful but not impossible if you are planning it. Contact airlines companies in order to check their rules so that you can make the best decisions.
7. Practice driving with your pet. If you take it to the vet or for short rides, reward it afterwards in order to make it understand that travelling by car is nice.
8.Purchase a high quality portable kennel. If you travel by plane, your kennel must be accepted by the airline company. It will keep the pet safe in the car as well.
9. Is your destination suitable to your pet? Nothing is worst than getting late at night to your hotel and find out that they do not accommodate pets. Many hotels accept pets; therefore, you must check them and book your room in advance.
