Travelling with Children
A trip is always beneficial for children. It teaches them many things, for example it lets them know how important is to be organized, to be able to prepare your luggage without forgetting anything and getting ready in order to arrive on time. If children learn from an early age to be organized, they can fulfill their adventure dreams and many new countries are waiting for them. The key is to get organized, in order to avoid unnecessary stress during your vacation with children.
“Travel educates the youth,” says the proverb! Going on a trip with children is a great experience. To admire the world through the eyes of a child is something unforgettable. Most tour operators offer reduced rates for children (even free when you go cruising) during the school holidays! In addition, when traveling with children there are also holiday locations for parents, like clubs and hotels, and for children, campgrounds, cruise ships, children clubs, for your kids and teens. Many cultural and recreational activities are organized for them by teams specialized in professional entertainment. Children can meet new friends of their age, they can share information and experiences, and it is great for them to keep in touch afterwards.
Children are more fragile than adults are, so it is a good thing to be equipped with a first aid kit from your native country. This applies especially to tropical countries where water is not properly treated and where there is risk of malaria. If you wish to make a circuit, remember to get water on you and avoid long journeys too. Add to your luggage games and toys (possibly your children’s favorite blanket) so that they can have fun during the journey and do not forget to have plenty of diapers on you if you travel with babies. Besides, regardless their age, children must put on dry clothes as soon as they start sweating because they can very easily catch a cold and it can ruin your holiday.
Children and babies are admitted from 3 weeks in a plane or a boat. Up to two years, babies pay between 10 and 20% of normal fare, whereas some airlines or ships do not require any fare for them. Children enjoy special taxes up to 12 years in general; some cruise lines offer this rate up to 18 years, depending on the route chosen.
If your children must travel alone, especially by train or plane, they are usually taken over by the company. Remember, however, to check their conditions especially financial ones. Indeed, some companies charge extra for the care of an unaccompanied minor.
Finally, do not forget that travelling with children means a bit of sacrifice from your part, but it is worth, as long as you can see that your child is happy. For example, imagine a hot day on the beach, when you would like just to sit and enjoy refreshments and chat with your friends. Obviously, children have much more energy and they want to swim, or to go on dodgem cars, or just play. Remember not to leave them alone ever, because accidents can occur each second when you are a kid…
