3 Top Zoos In The United States
Taking the kids to the zoo when on vacation is as enjoyable for the adults as it is for the kids. Most major cities of the U.S. have a zoo, though some are better than others. We have made a short list of top zoos when traveling in the U.S. If you find yourself in one of the cities mentioned, be sure you stop by to say hello to the animals.
1. New York City – The Bronx Zoo
The Bronx Zoo is one of the most innovative in the country. New York City is the proud host of the wildlife park that has diverse exhibits such as the African Plains. You can see the zebras, storks and lions roaming an African savanna. Wonder at the herds of gazelles along with giraffes, African wild dogs and nyalas. When you gaze upon this exhibition you will be hard pressed to realize you aren’t really in Africa at the Serengeti. Don’t miss Jungle World, the fabulous and awe inspiring Congo Gorilla Forest or the numerous species that make the zoo their home.
2. Washington, D.C. – The National Zoo
If you find yourself in the nation’s capitol, Washington, D.C., take the children to the National Zoo. It’s part of the Smithsonian Complex and is open and free to enter every day except Christmas. The zoo boasts approximately 2,000 inhabitants from more than 400 species. It is said that of all the residents that nearly 1/5 of the species are threatened or endangered. This is an attraction that will capture the interest of the entire family and won’t cost a penny.
3. San Diego - San Diego Zoo
Switching to the west coast of the U.S. set along the shores of the Pacific Ocean you will find San Diego and her well-known zoo. A few of the exhibits now showing are Monkey Trails, a tropical rainforest where vibrantly hued birds, exotic pigs and playful monkeys make their home. Don’t miss the Panda Research Station where you can enjoy the paths for viewing that wind their way up to give you the best opportunity to see a Giant Panda up close.
