The Blue Ridge Mountains is ninety minutes from Atlanta. Many people going on vacation do not have any idea how much fun they can have when they stay in the cabins of North Georgia. You can enjoy peaceful and calm afternoons boating and tubing and whitewater rafting. By staying in a vacation rental on the mountain you will be set up to enjoy your vacation to the fullest.
The Toccoa River is a great vacation spot for a tube float and is near a lot of cabins in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Toccoa River is controlled by a dam so the pace of your fun ride may change. There are a lot of tubing companies that offer tube float trips for your vacation. These trips may be six miles or less. Depending on how the water is released from the dam, the float trip could take from twenty minutes to six hours.
Preparing for a tubing adventure on your vacation in the Blue Ridge Mountains is very easy. It is probably best to wear comfortable clothes or bathing suit so you will be ready to get wet. You should also have sturdy shoes and sun block. When people go on a float during their vacation, many will bring coolers so they can bring along drinks and snacks and keep them secure during the tube float. Depending on the size of your cooler, you may have to rent an additional tube for the cooler. For safety reasons, tube rentals contain life jackets but it is best that anyone going on a tube float know how to swim. You can easily take the whole family tubing as long as the littlest floater is at least five.
While on vacation in North Georgia, you will find that many shops offer travelers a chance to go kayaking or canoeing, if tubing is a little too slow for them. A thirteen mile trail will give you a lot of time to paddle at your own speed.
During your vacation you will find travelers going white water rafting. Class three and four rapids will provide a lot of thrills for the white water rafter. Even novice rafters on vacation will have a good time because experienced guides go along with each white water rafting expedition. The rafting trip occurs on the Toccoa River which is renamed the Ocoee River when it goes into Tennessee.
There are twenty rapids in the Middle Ocoee River and it takes about two hours to navigate. In 1996 the Upper Ocoee River was the site of the Olympic kayak event. It also offers beautiful wilderness views.
